Overlord: Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

Age of Wonders developer goes action adventure

Some of our readers might remember the old days when Dungeon Keeper
enchanted gamers with its dark humor and cynical lines, combined with
the ruthless oppression of imp workers. Prepare yourselves to receive a
new helping of thrilling perspectives, by being evil or really evil
with the upcoming Overlord title. Age of Wonders developer Triumph
Studios left behind their highly appreciated turn based strategy
efforts to join publisher Codemasters in creating Overlord. The fantasy
action adventure game is scheduled for PC and Xbox 360 invasion in
summer 2007.

Within the thick fantasy, world players will become overlords, with
right of life and death over their subjects. The tag line is Lord
Acton’s
very own “absolute power corrupts absolutely”, in an endeavor to match
the player’s ambitions of glory with the many temptations of power
abuse, in the wake of your defenseless peasants. With incredible power
at your disposal and an army of evil-minded impish minions, there’s no
telling how long can you resist the seduction of madness, thus, one can
either be an illuminated ruler or an iron handed tyrant.

How corrupt you become depends solely on your actions. Should you exert
feudal repression towards your subjects, peasants start falling to
their knees, cowering to your presence and eventually praying for their
lives and handing up their daughters as offerings. On the other hand,
an important achievement factor is to finish the game 100% uncorrupted
by restraining yourself from killing any peasants, harvesting the souls
of living creatures or exterminating that antipathetical fantasy race
you’ve always despised. The storyline is developed by Terry Pratchett’s
daughter Rhianna Pratchett, who also wrote Child of Chaos fantasy novel
distributed with the Beyond Divinity game, and PS3 launch title
Heavenly Sword’s script.
